In this guide, we'll be walking through how to create an account on the EOS blockchain and set up a wallet for interacting with EOS dApps (decentralized applications). For the purposes of this guide, we'll be explaining how to do this using the Wombat Wallet web browser extension. The steps are similar if you are using the Wombat Wallet Desktop App or the Wombat Wallet Mobile App for iOS and Android.
Wombat is one of the simplest tools for quickly getting set up with an account on the EOS Network. However, there are many other tools also available for this purpose. For a more robust set of features check out Anchor Wallet by Greymass or TokenPocket.
Check out our other guides for more details on using these tools.
The first step is to head to the Chrome Web Store and add the Wombat Wallet extension to your browser. You can do this by heading to https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/wombat-gaming-wallet-for/amkmjjmmflddogmhpjloimipbofnfjih
We recommend using either Google Chrome or Brave Browser as your web browser, for maximum compatibility.
Once wombat has been added to your browser, navigate to where your plugins are located on your browser and select the Wombat Wallet icon. This is normally in the upper right hand side of your browser, next to the address bar.
When you open the Wombat browser extension, you should be prompted with a screen to register or login. If this is your first time using Wombat, select the "Register" option.
On the next screen, be sure to read and agree to the Terms and Conditions, as well as the Privacy Policy that are presented. Then, select a sign-in option and follow the on-screen prompts to authorize your selection.
After agreeing to the terms and choosing a sign in option, you'll be prompted with a screen to protect your account on the device you are setting things up with. Enter a passphrase and keep it some place secure where no one else can access it.
When prompted, choose "EOS" as the blockchain you'd like to interact with. Then, on the next page select "Create Account" if you are new. If you've already set up an account, you can also import a pre-existing account at this point.
Now, you'll be able enter a name for the EOS account that will be created. It's important to note that your account name must be exactly 12 characters long. Once you've found an available account name that you like, select "Create Account".
Lastly, it's very important that you backup your account so that you can restore it on another device if needed. Use one of the options that you are prompted with to back things up and complete the account creation process.
Make sure you backup your account in Step 4. If not you run the risk of loosing access to your account and all of the funds held within it.
As previously noted, Wombat is just one of several options for creating and managing accounts on EOS. More robust tooling is available through wallets such as Anchor Wallet and TokenPocket.
