If you need extra guidance, it's alway's worthwhile to check the support documentation for you're preferred exchange.
EOS can be acquired on most major exchanges. Do some searching to find a crypto exchange that is supported in you're geographic location, then go through their process for setting up an account. You can learn more about some of the exchanges that support the EOS token at eosnetwork.com/introducing-eos
Log into your exchange account and find the area that allow you "Purchase" or "Trade" tokens. The process here will vary from one exchange to the next and it is best to check with your exchange's support documentation if you're confused.
Follow the exchange's steps to acquire the EOS token. In some cases you may be able to populate your exchange account with fiat from your bank account, then use that balance to purchase EOS. In other situations, you may need to buy another token like Bitcoin, then trade that token for EOS.
Once you hold a balance of EOS on your exchange account you'll be able to withdraw that EOS to your account on the EOS Network. In order to do this, find the "Withdraw" section of your preferred exchange and choose the option to withdraw EOS tokens on the EOS network.
Enter the name of the account you'd like to withdraw your tokens to. This would be the 12 character name you gave to your account in Step 3 of the guide on Setting up a Wallet & Creating an Account. Always double check your the account name to ensure you are sending your tokens to the proper location. This cannot be reversed if you make a mistake.
Enter the amount of tokens you'd like to send to your account and select "Withdraw". If presented with it, go through any necessary verification processes to complete the withdrawal. Once complete, it may take a few minutes for the transaction to process and the tokens to end up in your account.
When sending tokens somewhere for the first time, it's always good to do a trial with a small number of tokens. That way if you accidentally enter the wrong address or make some other error, you won't loose a large amount of funds. Once you see the small amount arrive in your account properly you can go through the process again with the full amount.
It's also important to pay attention to the memo field when sending tokens to or from an exchange. This does not usually affect withdrawals from the exchange to the EOS network, but often when depositing tokens back into the exchange you may be required to enter a specific memo. This will ensure that your tokens end up in the proper account.
Once you have EOS in your account on the EOS Network you can start staking your EOS to earn rewards.
